Working in New Zealand

To work legally in New Zealand, you must possess a valid work visa.

There are over 80 types of visas available for people who want to work in New Zealand, but many of them are specific to certain countries. The cost and requirements for these visas can vary based on the applicant's country of origin. Some visas, like the Entrepreneur work visa, are more expensive than others and all visas require an immigration fee.

Most visas can be applied for online, but it's important to keep in mind that the application window for some visas may be short and competitive. Some visas in New Zealand are also subject to a point-based immigration system called the "Point Scale".

How to Apply for Residency in New Zealand

To apply for permanent residence in New Zealand, you will need to apply for a residence visa.

To be eligible for a residence visa, you will need to meet certain requirements, including having a job offer or an acceptable business investment, being able to show that you have sufficient funds to support yourself and any dependents while you are in New Zealand, and being of good character.

Residency based on job offer

If you are applying for a residence visa based on a job offer, you will need to have a job offer from a New Zealand employer that is for a skilled position that cannot be filled by a New Zealand citizen or resident. You will also need to meet any relevant licensing or registration requirements for your occupation.

Residency based on Business Investment

If you are applying for a residence visa based on an acceptable business investment, you will need to have a sound business plan and sufficient funds to invest in a new or existing business in New Zealand. You will also need to meet any relevant licensing or registration requirements for your business.

Residency based on Partner/Dependents

If you are applying for a residence visa based on being a partner or dependent child of a New Zealand citizen or resident, you will need to provide evidence of your relationship and meet any other requirements that may apply.
